25th Annual Building Fair

From 10:00AM to 3:00PM

This is a FREE event! There is no charge to participate in the building fair activities. However, the museum itself will be open at regular admission prices. We also intend to raise money to support museum operations and continuing restoration of the theatre through sponsorships.

The Building Fair began in 1992 before any work began on restoring the historic 1914 theatre building. Sponsored by the Preservation and Conservation Association (PACA) in conjunction with Historic Preservation Week to celebrate the trades used to construct and renovate buildings and draw the public’s attention to the Orpheum Theatre restoration project. The fair was exceptionally popular and quickly became an annual tradition. It was awarded the Landmarks Preservation Council of Illinois’ 1994 Richard H. Driehaus Educational Program Award.
The Orpheum Children’s Science Museum is continuing the tradition of the building fair to celebrate our historic building, and as a science museum, we are incorporating scientific principles involved in building products and techniques.
